It's the birthday of Edna St. Vincent Millay, born in 1892.

My mother was fond of her poetry, which made me fond of many of her pieces, too.

Following my mom's death, my brother, sister, father and I gave thought as to what we should have engraved on her gravestone. So, I searched the bible, and several of her old poetry books. The Millay chapter was bookmarked frequently and my eyes lingered on one poem in particular, Dirge Without Music. I knew I had found the appropriate epitaph. My siblings and father agreed and this is what we chose:

"More precious was the light in your eyes than all the roses in the world."
